Upcoming Movies of 2018

This is a brief list (ordered by release date) of some of the notable movies coming out in 2018 or movies that I am personally really looking forward to seeing.

Honourable mention of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Release Date: November 16

Avengers: Infinity War

Release Date: April 27

Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of one of the most successful franchises in movie history. The franchise has been building up to this moment for the past couple years with numerous teasers of the Thanos sprinkled throughout the past couple Marvel movies. With the success of Black Panther, Marvel seems poised to make even more money with Infinity War.

The Incredibles 2

Release Date: June 15

Incredibles 2 is a movie with very high expectations. Fourteen years after The Incredibles fans of the first have been asking for a sequel for a long time and Pixar in their infinite wisdom has finally answered them. I personally rank The Incredibles among the very best Pixar movies and also one of the best superhero movies generally. Although my expectations are high I feel they aren’t unreasonable considering Pixar’s track record and their patience with developing this movie.

Won’t You be my Neighbour

Release Date: June 8

Mr. Rogers needs no real introduction but for the unfamiliar watching this video may be enough to give context.

The director was also the same one who directed 20 Feet From Stardom which was an excellent movie that won an Oscar for Best Documentary. This movie may not be as popular as the others but may be a pleasant surprise.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado

Release Date: June 29

2015 was a great year for movies and Sicario was significant contributor to that. Sicario 2 is missing Emily Blunt and Denis Villeneuve which makes me question the direction the movie is taking. However, the new director promises a movie that is even darker thematically than the last which is enough of a draw to take me to the theatre.

Creed II

Release Date: November 21

Creed was one of the best boxing and sports movies in recent memory. With characters that actually showed real emotion and a story that built on the Rocky Series Creed was one of my favourite movies of 2015. Along with innovative cinematography of the scenes inside the ring Creed, though a franchise movie in a sense, was a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, Ryan Coogler isn’t returning as the director which is concerning but with a solid established foundation I believe Creed II will at least be a reasonably good movie.
